Span Plans Forward for Sandy Hook Bridge Link
Walter Hopking of the State Roads Commission outlined plans for the Sandy Hook bridge across the Potomac connecting Maryland and Virginia as part of a tri state link. The 2179 foot structure would cost about 0.75 million dollars with a 26 foot roadway and two 3 foot sidewalks. Applications have been made to the War Department for approval and first contracts could be advertised this fall if the federal agency acts promptly. The bridge would tie into state routes 258 and 9 and the principal Potomac corridor to Washington, with a Harper’s Ferry bridge of similar type linking West Virginia and Virginia nearby.
