The Pan American Clipper departed Foynes Ireland at 4 19 A M for its first daylight crossing of the North Atlantic to Botwood Newfoundland The flight began Friday August 6 and linked Ireland with Newfoundland via the ocean in a giant flying boat setting a notable milestone in transatlantic air travel.

Tragic Family Tragedy Leaves Four Dead in Early Morning
Neighbors awoke to gunfire at dawn and found a mother, two daughters, and a son dead in a two story apartment. Police report a single shooter used a rifle, each daughter shot in the head, mother dressed in night clothes, son found fully dressed on the floor. About 200 persons attended the Potomac Fish and Game Club outing at the club farm near Falling Waters. A dinner was served at 6 p.m. with trapshooting target shooting and bass fishing on the program. Mercesburg fire department supplied floodlight for the night program.
