In Warm Springs Georgia on April 22 President Roosevelt urged a liberal liberal platform for 1940 and avoided signaling a third term bid or backing a successor. He toured in a special car greeting young Democrats and urged support for government action, receiving mostly cordial telegrams though none released by White House.

Frederick Md April 22 A second mental examination of Martha Rose Burkittsville negress wider sentence of death for murder was proposed today by her attorney B Austin James Governor O Conor refused recently to halt the hanging scheduled for May 17 The woman was convicted of killing her husband with an axe Mr James said the request would be made through the office of Governor Herbert R O Conor and that the mental examination would be conducted in conjunctions with officials of the State Board of Mental Hygiene
