Work to prepare a city land plot along Frederick Road for a potato crop will begin today with about 50 men, under oversight by John R. Tenney of the Welfare Federation and farm committee members H. B. Cost and W. Keller Nigh. Last year 1,500 bushels were raised. Allegany County Tax Rate Reduced in 1933 34 Levy
Allegany County Commissioners signed the levy list reducing the tax rate by thirty cents to 1.20 for the 1933-34 fiscal year. Last year’s rate was 1.60. Salaries were cut countywide and teachers volunteered reductions. State aid to the Board of Education increased, with the county levy totaling 1,102,319.40 versus 1,300,936.91 last year.

A six year old boy, Oscar Jones Jr, was hit near his home at 27 Center Street by a car driven by Raymond Kline. He arrived at Washington County Hospital in semi conscious condition with a probable skull fracture and internal injuries. In Baltimore, Rev. Glenn Switzer was elected moderator of the Baltimore Presbytery.
