Michigan Becomes First State to Ratify Prohibition Repeal
In Lansing on April 11, Michigan became the first state to ratify repeal of the national prohibition law. A constitutional convention of 100 delegates voted 99 to 1 to eliminate the prohibition act from the Constitution. Eugene Davenport of Barry County offered the lone negative, receiving a commendation in a resolution. Governor William A. Comstock and officials witnessed the momentous vote amid cheers and a crowded Representatives Hall.

Truck Driver Fined For Cruelty to Pedigreed Dog
Thomas Glennon of near Philadelphia was found guilty of cruelty by Magistrate W W McKinnic of Greenscastle and fined ten dollars plus costs for deliberately striking the pedigreed hunting dog owned by Theo dore Brindle on March 9. Brindle testified the truck driver veered off course to hit the dog with his vehicle.

Ruth Judd Denied Trial in Murder Case
Winnie Ruth Judd’s bid for a new trial on the Agnes Leroi murder charge failed in Phoenix. Judge Speakman ruled the state supreme court had stripped him of authority, declined the motion, and adjourned the hearing with the jurors dismissed. Judd remains slated for hanging on April 21.

Jury to decide Hammer case under insanity plea
Superior Judge William Aggeler would sentence Miss Hammer to ten years to life if found sane. If the jury finds her insane she would escape prison. Prosecutors say Van Dorn and Hammer lured Mrs. Skeele from her home and held her 24 hours in a Pasadena house seeking a $10,000 ransom from Professor Skeele.
