Memphis report notes a promised general rain to relieve sun scorched crops. Estimated losses reach 135 million dollars as a wind storm spreads dust hail and rain across East Arkansas Tennessee Northern Mississippi and Alabama. The storm is linked to two deaths.

A work train derailed shortly before Naples station today, killing twenty and injuring about one hundred. Two coaches telescoped and another overturned as the Naples to Nola service failed.
Nome Alaska bunkhouse operators report all houses and cabins full as the Victoria arrives with hundreds of passengers. They will switch to an eight hour shift system to manage the crowded sleeping quarters, since early arrivals by plane secured preferred accommodations.

Seattle June 11 Barney Wold convicted of manslaughter in the death of his 89 year old mother after she broke her hip when he threw her to the floor. Judge James Kinne sentenced him to one year in the county jail. Wold said he would rather go to the State Penitentiary at Walla Walla to be removed from the scene of his deed.
Premier Mussolini retires Marshal Badoglio as Viceroy of Ethiopia and names him Chief of Staff of the Army. He will immediately reorganize all military forces.
A Panhandle legislator Eugene Worley vows to punch Rexford Tugwell in the nose if the Resettlement Administration Chief does not recall the dust bowl moving pictures. Worley calls the film libel on the U S Great Plains while awaiting possible meeting at Philadelphia. The forecast predicts continued sunshine and a potential new Juneau sunshine record.
Portland Oregon today celebrated the Rose Festival with Queen Janet Sonysmith and a royal court of seven princesses. Thousands attended including a Royal Canadian Mounted Police contingent from Vancouver and bagpipers adding to the pageantry.
Territorial Auditor reports $90,006 paid to the city from liquor license revenues and school money in the period Aug 19 last year to June 4 this year. Of that total $55,006.44 went to liquor refunds and school funds, with $10,730.11 from liquor licenses and $44,276.33 to school money. Liquor refunds cover April 1 1935 to March 31 1936, including $5,435.08 from April–July last year and $5,295,038 from August 1 last year to March 31 this year.
Charles H. Porward, Forest Service timber cruiser and forest examiner, is expected to return to his Juneau office after a six week absence on the West Coast surveying areas for timber cruising.
Detroit June 11 investigators say the Black Legion terror network spreads to three automobile plants. Packard investigator Prank Rice and foremen at two factories are held as members of an Intelligence squad after a burned house case in Ownland County. Prosecutor McCrea warns the group aims to topple the government with a fascist dictatorship and says Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler is due in Detroit to discuss the case.
In Anchorage Alaska on June 11 the excavation for an addition to the Anchorage Hotel begins tomorrow. Workers will run 2500 yards of gravel through a sluice box with 500 feet to a vacant lot. Superintendent W Hufelsen admits placing riffles in the sluice box though excavation has not started. Lawyers question ownership of any found gold. Hufeisen says the boss decides ownership.
Volunteer crews fought a forest fire that destroyed deserted Granby mine buildings at Anyox British Columbia. The blaze threatened a schoolhouse and the 50 residents of the town as Forest Ranger J B Scott and nearby vessels prepared to evacuate locals.
Lewiston Idaho June 11 Mrs. W D Lough aged 52 died from injuries after a Idaho whirlwind last Sunday that killed her husband and destroyed their home and farm buildings near Retubens.
Finland informs Secretary Hull it will meet the regular semiannual war debt installment of 9,164,315 dollars due next Monday June 16. A practice game is set for 6 30 tonight at the ball park between the Moose and American Legion teams.
Herbert Hoover, at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, denounces the New Deal as a march of Socialist and Fascist states. He calls for a Holy Crusade for Liberty to retake citadels of Liberty and argues continued New Deal delays recovery will bring tears, bankruptcy, and widened unemployment.
Washington State delegates opposing Gov. Alfred Landon conceded today they likely cannot change the outcome. Kenneth Klepser of Everett said Landon will be nominated before their state vote. about half of the sixteen votes might have gone to Vandenberg or Knox, but now they will ride the bandwagon.
In Malaga on June 11 Antonio Romano aged 2 President of the Malaga Provincial Parliament and top Socialist leader was assassinated on a city street. Street fighting erupted between Socialist and Syndicalist factions as authorities move to crush a Rightist movement. A general strike paralyzed Malaga though 110 000 farmers voted to end the long strike seeking higher prices and wages.
In Kettle Falls Washington Elgin Buckley who had just graduated from Kettle Falls High School died from gangrene after a fall from a tree in an apple orchard. His classmates acted as pallbearers at the funeral and appeared as they did at the baccalaureate services. Alaska bound steamer Alaska due in port tomorrow at 4 PM per advices from Ketchikan.
President Roosevelt pledged to advance the nations goals under the Constitution guiding economic and social needs. He argued the Constitution fits modern demands and warned wealth should not grant political control. The remarks, totaling an ardent political thesis, surprised many in his party amid Hoover’s convention speech.
