The Boston reports dull Bahia trade as British cruisers capture several slavers with cargoes of enslaved people. Four slavers sailed for Africa in two to three months, with five or six more fitting out. A captain and many slaves drowned when a vessel ran ashore near Bahia during pursuit. Slaves are landed on the coast and carried inland before the vessel returns to Bahia. The Bahia region, once threatened by civil war, is now quiet.
A Winchester Republican correspondent reports Mediterranean wheat escaped rust in parts of Virginia. Washington County Pa. yields were below average due to rust, yet the Mediterranean variety fared comparatively well according to the Washington Reporter.
