Move For Flasher Lights Gets Push From Eng Cooke
J R Cooke, division engineer for the Ohio Highway Dept, backs a plan to install flashing lights at three dangerous Clermont County intersections. Russell Simmons, state highway maintenance supervisor, says Cooke directed Robert Hauselman to request Columbus authorization for signals at routes 142 and 28 in Goshen, Wolfpen Pleasant Hill Road, and 28 between Mulberry Mt Repose and Amelia Olive Branch Road and 125. Goshen Township residents had petitioned for action after crashes, with 1147 signatures. County commissioners and Simmons have pressed for the flashers.

At the September meeting the Clermont County Historical Society reported a total membership of 100 including two life members six honorary 11 new members and 81 renewals. They approved more copies of an outline history and a county map marking historical sites. Members appointed to mark spots were Mrs. Grace Hirschauer Mrs. John Wesley Smith and Mrs. R Lovell Atkins. Representatives to the Ohio Historical Society Citizens Committee were Harry R Clark Harry H Keller Herbert Jeffries Miss Sheila Fisher and Mrs Ralph E Hodges. Dr Phillips Greene and William Shilling to join. The Southwestern Ohio Coin and Gun Club sets a public meeting September 29 at the Hugh Watson Memorial American Legion Post Greenhills with a door prize for paid members. A Kentucky tour on September 29 was discussed with a third bus possible for more participants.

Jerry Ashburn Rites At Batavia
Graveside services for Jerry E. Ashburn formerly of Batavia were held at family convenience. He died Thursday in Fairfax Virginia Hospital from mushroom poisoning after eating mushrooms picked at his country home. Moore funeral home Batavia handled arrangements. Ashburn, son of Mr and Mrs James P Ashburn, was a Fairfax County master plan division senior planner. He lived with his wife Ruth Ann daughter of Dr and Mrs Claude B Smith on Yale Road Oakton near Washington DC. He was a Batavia high school 1950 graduate and Army Corps of Engineers Reserve captain. He was a scoutmaster and active in civic affairs.
