William Batiler a longtime Lindale and Amelia area painter was found dead by hanging from a locust tree in his yard on Saturday morning. The 8 year old widower had suffered prolonged melancholy with despondency but no warning signs were seen. He was buried from his home on Monday leaving a widow and children.
Saturday October 1 fixed for the 59th Ohio reunion to be held at Felicity. Superintendent A T Marsh will welcome the veterans while Captain R H Higgins speaks for the regiment. Rev Samuel W Campbell of Columbia will deliver the day’s address as Felicity opens its doors to all veterans and friends.
The funeral of Mrs Mary Neal Hutchess Smith aged 35 who died of heart disease was held in Urbana on Friday. She was interred beside her husband Joseph P. Smith. A large crowd attended as her children, still young, were consoled by relatives C E Frame Jennie Thompson Herbert and Clifton Smith.
Macon inventor Thomas W. Hunt claims a clock that wakes a sleeper at 3 30 set to light a candle and kindle a fire at 8 30. He states state rights sold and predicts the device will become a common household necessity with future clocks performing more tasks.

A. N. Spahr has secured a satisfactory conference appointment and will move to Mechanicsburg where a new church worth between 25000 and 30000 dollars has been built. He will be ten miles from his daughter Alberta in Urbana, a quiet pleasant community.

Brigadier General Joseph F. Haskell who commanded the 17th regiment at El Caney died suddenly at his Columbus home last Saturday after a convalescence from wounds received at El Caney. He fell dead after greeting his troops at the station and suffered apoplexy on the way home.
R D Sapp was presented with fine gold spectacles by associates in the public building upon his retirement from the commissioners office on Monday. Auditor John Davis delivered the presentation speech and Janitor C M Long announced the gift as Sapp placed the glasses on his eyes.

Prof. George J. Smith of New York City, born in Lebanon in 1866, tops the eligible list for New York City board of education examiner posts. Four examiners will be appointed. Smith holds a PhD from Wooster and an MA from Harvard after teaching in Washington and Philadelphia and a year in New York. T. L. Hamburay of the Hamilton House will travel Indiana for four months as a tool company commercial traveler. Dr Fowler’s Extract of Wild Strawberry claims forty years of success curing various stomach and intestinal ailments.
The eighty second annual Clermont Baptist Association met at Bethel Church on September 11 and 16 with delegates from eight churches. Officers elected for the year include Rev. E. Graves moderator and C. W. Phares secretary treasurer, with others named. The next session is slated for Lindale in September 1899.
