Mt Carmel Glen Este PTA Opens New Year With Program

The Mt Carmel Glen Este PTA holds its first meeting of the school year Friday Sept 18 at 8 pm with Mrs J O Elliott presiding. The program includes welcome remarks by the president, teacher introductions by the principal, school board members by the president, and a health talk by county nurse Ruth Patchell titled Hints to Parents on Health Problems. Local music features Donald McGraw and Priscilla Harrison. The 3 mill levy talk is given by Mr Holly. Eighth grade mothers host social hour. attendance urged for old and new members. Williamsburg PTA also meets Sept 21 at 8 pm in the school cafeteria with a strong program.

Mell Family Reunion Held at Pt Pleasant Ohio

The Mell family annual reunion was held on Sept 13 at Pt Pleasant Ohio with all the children present except Ernest and his family. Many relatives and friends gathered for a day of swimming baseball and photos plus plenty of food. Mrs. Cynthia Sarver Convicted of First Degree Murder

Afton case ends with a seven women five men jury finding Cynthia Sarver guilty of first degree murder for the May 22 shooting of Cleve Gillman in her home. The verdict carries a mandatory life sentence without pardon. defense plans to appeal after a posttrial motion for a new trial. In a separate incident, Harry Henderson killed his wife Marcella Roth Henderson then committed suicide on their Wiggonsville porch, coroner rules murder and death by own action.

Grange Inspection Focus Along September Schedule

Grange groups prepare for inspections with Felicity Clermont and Bantam already scored. September dates for Locust Corner Miami Williamsburg Owensville Wayne Goshen Bethel Monroe. Championship series set for Williamsburg and Mt Crab

Clermont County baseball titles will be decided in a three game set between Williamsburg and Mt. Crab starting Sunday in Williamsburg. If necessary a second game follows next Sunday in Mt. Orab with a potential third game to be announced. Williamsburg aims to repeat. Mt. Orab promises strong play with pitchers Grimm Wilkens for Williamsburg and Boles Leake Louderback for Mt. Crab.

Clermont 4-H Members Attend State Club Congress

Four Clermont county 4-H members and one advisor travel to Ohio State University in Columbus for an all around youth program. Fatal head on crash claims 12 aboard near Chile Route 52

Ralph Perkins 31 and his wife Hdna Mae 19 of Augusta Kentucky were killed in a twovehicle collision two miles east of Chile on Route 52 at 1205 Monday. Roy L. Cahall 38 of Georgetown drove the coupe carrying six passengers. Cahall and five others were injured. The other car was driven by Elwood Crawford 31 of Bethel.

Farmers in Clermont County meet in each township on September 18 at 8 p m to elect delegates to the county convention and community committeemen for the 1943 Agricultural Conservation program. May Take Gasoline Expenses From Taxes

Citizens Defense Corps members in Batavia were told by local officials that gasoline expenditures for their duties are deductible on income tax returns. The ruling, from Dan T. Moore and the Internal Revenue Commissioner, designates these costs as governmental gifts and allows only gas expenditures, not depreciation. The guidance may also apply to Civilian Patrol Forest Fire Fighters Service and Aircraft Warning Service workers under various government agencies. Adequate records should be kept to prove the expenditures.

Ohio Civil Defense Chief Warns of Surprise Blackouts

Ralph H. Stone, executive director of the Ohio State Council of Defense, urged rapid enrollment of volunteers and public education for surprise blackouts in Ohio cities. He cited Piqua’s test response, urged regular drills, and warned civilians to avoid relying on lights during emergencies to hasten Ohio’s civilian and industrial protection program.
