The 1958 United Appeal kicks off September 9 with employee solicitation across five county Cincinnati area firms. Methodists Place Capsule Behind Cornerstone
First Methodist Church of Batavia marks its 200th anniversary in 2007 with plans to open a sealed copper capsule behind the cornerstone of the new education and fellowship addition. The box will include the Courier and Clermont Sun stories, Sunday school lists and papers, church bulletins, hymnals, project brochure, and Methodist publications. Ceremony leaders included Dr. Edwin H. Dickey and Pastor Wesley Clarke. The addition aims for completion in November at an estimated cost of 60 thousand dollars. The Rt 125 relocation date was corrected to September 1958 from 1957.

Six Men County Quota Sets October Draft Call
Clermont County’s Selective Service induction for October is six men. Ohio headquarters notified county boards that the statewide call is 434 men, the smallest month this year and less than half of October last year. The high for 1957 was 959 in January.

The Batavia Business Men's Association voted to support a 2 million bond for a county hospital and a 0.65 mill operating levy. They authorized a $50 committee donation to aid the campaign. Man Arrested In Shotgun Slaying
Grover Cleveland McAfee 47 of Eiler Lane is jailed in Clermont County pending investigation into the murder of his son-in-law J. T. Strunk 22. Strunk died after being shot at the McAfee residence when he allegedly kicked in the door and was shot with a 16 gauge shotgun. Detective and county officials investigated the incident alongside the coroner. Strunk had appeared in court six weeks earlier on probation for assault charges filed by his wife and mother-in-law.

The Clermont County Board of Commissioners approved a 106000 bond issue to finance county real estate reappraisal. A 75000 loan from First National Bank Batavia supports anticipated general obligation bond sales. Auditor Earle B.
