Senator Douglas and his wife arrived in Chicago on May 1 from Washington. A massive crowd at the Wigwam escorted him in a public procession as he urged loyalty to the Constitution and Union while warning that disunion efforts would imperil the country. He defended peaceful efforts and questioned disloyalist protests after a disputed election.

Long memoir details Daniel Parker born 1751 Newburyport Massachusetts and his fifty five year ministry across Ohio valley. He preached in leading creeds, endured persecutions, pursued education, helped found Clermont Academy, and mentored youth with the Bible as core. Parker died March 22 1861 at Mt Hygiene leaving wife Priscilla King six sons two daughters eighteen grandchildren.
