Friend Starts On Sixth Term As County Treasurer
John P. Friend, Clermont County treasurer, took the oath of office before Common Pleas Judge Harry Britton on Tuesday to begin his sixth consecutive term. He had previously served two one year deputy terms before his first four year term starting in 1936. The Ohio law requires county treasurers to be elected in November and take the oath the first Monday of September. Labor Day fell on Monday, shifting the legal business day to Tuesday. Pass This One Levy for General Relief in Clermont County
Voters in Clermont County face a small quarter mill levy measure at the November general election. If approved the average taxpayer pays under $2 yearly in two installments toward food coal and medical supplies for the needy on the county Welfare list. The two year levy would raise about $56,000, with actual relief starting in October and funds expected from state sources in March next year. If defeated relief could be cut off or funds used on debt to coal yards and stores, affecting schooling for children.

No Clues To Men Who Locked Three In Farm Corn Crib
Three children Diana 8 Daryl 6 and Darlene 4 were briefly confined in a corn crib at the Ernest Meeks farm near Afton by three men who fled from a barn after the father heard cries for help. Deputies and 100 neighbors searched the surrounding woods overnight.

Clermont Heights First Subdivision Filed Under Plan
The first subdivision under new bond rules for streets was filed last week for Clermont Heights, a 49 acre tract along Rt. 131 east of Williams Corner. Earl T. Barnes, Cincinnati attorney owner and developer, plans half acre lots and streets to meet county approval with city water sought when available. Clyde Klein builds a modern three bedroom brick home in the subdivision.
