At the mustering in of Major William Richard Post No 750 G A R in Chile the widow of the late soldier presented the National colors. Fire destroyed the post headquarters last spring and the colors were lost. The colors have been replaced and will be dedicated on the evening of September with ceremonies and festivities.
Portsmouth has faced a string of utility troubles. Water works broke down forcing reliance on fire engines, temporary pumps sank in the supporting barge, a 10 inch pipe connection loosened, and the electric light plant failed on Wednesday evening forcing residents to use lanterns.
The Ripley Bee reports Mr. Robert Magee, Deputy District Grand Lecturer of the Masonic order, spent four days in Ripley. Magee praised Union Lodge for excellent order and active masonry and called him a pleasant gentleman whose visit was well received by the brethren.
