The Lytle family held their annual outing at the old homestead last Monday September 1 with many members and friends in attendance. After a morning of conversation and games, the group enjoyed a most appetizing noon dinner. The event has been a long standing custom for years and members looked forward to it with great pleasure.
Marion McFeeters of Lorado and Miss Goldie White of Marathon wed at 10 30 in Rev Lavender’s church with Kenneth White and Blanche McFeeters present. The couple plan home in Marathon and receive warm wishes from friends.
Ohio will require local authorities to submit bridge and culvert plans for approval by the State Highway Department before work begins. The amended General Code section 1183, passed last week, follows flood driven losses of eight million dollars in March. The Clermont County Experiment Farm’s second annual picnic on August 29 drew interest in the farm and its teaching. Chief speaker John Y. Cunningham of Ohio Farmer spoke along with Eli Speidel Lowell Roudebush and W F Roudebush. The farm sits 0.75 miles west of Owensville on the Milford and Chillicothe turnpike, spans 130 acres, and shows long cultivation with low fertility. The county spent about 6500 dollars to establish it, with 12000 voted and 5500 used for barn remodeling and equipment. Well attended picnic last Saturday at Highland Park hosted by Holy Trinity church members proved a success in every respect. The crowd was large, amusements fine and dinner superb. Prizes were hotly contested and the dance in the evening pleased the young folks.

Clarence G. Tice and Lula M. Jester wed on Saturday August 30 at 9 15 am with Ambrose Tice present. Rev E Bardsall officiated at the M E parsonage and the couple departed on the 10 19 car. Howard C Bennett and Imogene Pence were joined in marriage by Rev Burdsall at the M E parsonage on Monday September 1 with Ethel sister of the groom and Recorder John Huntington in attendance.
Warning to take precautions before lowering workers into wells citing a fatal gas incident in Adams county where James Jenkins died after no safety measures were used. A rope under the arms is advised to aid retrieval from gas hazards during cleaning.
Hawkins family from southern county held a reunion at Bantam fairgrounds last Saturday with many in attendance. A rendered program was enjoyed by all.
Mrs Eliza Kain marked her 81st birthday with a small family gathering. Relatives from Springfield and Dayton joined Clayton Cartmell C W Pegg Ruth Kate and Milt in the quiet observance noting her long residence and active upkeep of the home.
A large Anstaett family gathering near Olive Branch included about 100 thrifty farmers and relatives. Jacob Anstaett was elected president with John Schultz secretary and John Walfanger treasurer. next reunion set for September 1, 1914 at Charles K. Anstaett’s home.
Foreign horticulturists show strong interest in a new fertilizing method for fruit trees. Holes four to six inches deep are dug at twenty inch intervals across the orchard. Each hole receives 40 grams of fertilizer containing 20 grams nitrate of soda and 10 grams muriate of potash. The treated trees exhibit renewed vigor in both old and young stock.
Blanchester city officials announce a street carnival from September 29 to October 4 with committees appointed and preparations underway. The event is expected to draw many visitors and rival any previous local festivities in the state.

Treasurer elect Rogers posted his bond Saturday and started as treasurer Monday with J C Dale as deputy. Superintendent elect Arch Holland began work after bonding and taking office. Commissioners Myers Houser and Fridman prepare to oversee the dilapidated county roads with minimal funds. Recorder elect John Hantington assumed office with deputy Carlos Rose. Auditor-elect takes office mid October with deputy Cleon Searls, who will move into the Shreeves property this week.
Residents gathered for a home coming at Old Bethel church near Bantam last Sunday. The event featured morning conversations, a self-prepared noon dinner, an afternoon program, a sermon by Rev. Pumphrey of Bethel, and a historical sketch by T. A. Pinkham.

Before L. M. Rogers the treasurer elect assumed office last Monday. Leonard L. Harding Republican and A. F. Kayser Democrat were appointed by Judge Joseph to audit the treasurer B. B. Turner’s money and accounts before retiring. They found everything OK and Rogers and J. C. Dale are now in charge.
The Batavia cornet band, twenty strong, joined the Labor Day parade in Cincinnati with the teamsters union. They left on an early car and delivered a standout appearance, matching other bands in the procession and performance. The boys show strong interest in the organization.
Mr and Mrs Charles Craver assume management of the Clermont Hotel after taking over last Saturday from Mr and Mrs Slade. Mrs Craver brings hospitality experience and improvements are planned. On the same day Mr Rice, previously of Palace Livery Stable, leased the attached stable and began running it last Monday, with both operations aiming to cooperate for mutual support.
The notice designates a hunting period from September 16 to October 20 for squirrels. Hunters may take up to five squirrels per day if they are found. The law forbids killing squirrels to protect crops outside the hunting season.
