Milford Township formation approved for January

Milford will become its own township in January after Clermont County Commissioners approved the move at the August 26 meeting. Hamilton County also endorsed the boundary change. The change shifts funding from Miami Township to Milford for fire protection and the life squad, with no tax increase or new township government. Residents must reapprove levies for these services, as previous levies will no longer apply once Milford is autonomous.

Burg Mayor Warns Doom If Income Tax Is Rejected

Williamsburg mayor Harry Donaworth warned that abolishing the village income tax in the November election could collapse government. He estimated a $97,000 annual budget cut, leading to reduced police protection with two officers five days a week and a street department cutback. The petition to place the issue on the ballot was started by Ruth Fields, who said funds weren’t being used effectively. Loveland Castle closed by legal rulings and zoning conflict

Loveland Castle shut its doors on August 25 after two legal challenges raised by the Ohio Board of Building Appeals and zoning questions. The site, begun in 1929 by Harry Andrews and later managed by the Knights of the Golden Trail, faces public assembly use and building code issues in Hamilton County. Trail plans to appeal the board ruling while zoning appeals linger.

Clermont Mercy plans $8 million hospital expansion

Clermont Mercy Hospital submitted to the Ohio Department of Health for approval of an $8 million expansion. If approved, the project would raise beds from 109 to 157, add a 30 bed psychiatric unit, replace 22 psychiatric beds with 40 medical surgical beds, and shell the top floor for future patient rooms. Groundwork includes expanded X-ray and lab, relocated records, library, and doctors’ facilities with a new courtyard and entrance lobby for the psychiatric unit.

Judgments Granted In Welfare Fraud Suits In Clermont County

Clermont County Court on Tuesday afternoon last week granted judgments in five civil welfare fraud suits filed by the county Welfare Department in July. Prosecutions continued two cases eight days, others were dismissed or continued. The five judgments included Carey Hartman, Diana Hibbs, Doris Lacey, Ida Smith, and Spencer Lotic, with amounts listed and costs ordered.

Appeal possible for Harold Bissantz bribery case
