The Clermont County Pomona Grange gathers at 8 p m October 28 in the Williamsburg school auditorium. A 6 30 p m covered dish dinner precedes the meeting led by grange master Herb Mallett. Mrs Anna Dumford organizes the program with Bethel degree team to confer degrees and Home Economics to run oat meal cookie elimination and new from old contests. Subordinate grange winners urged to bring entries. The evening format aids members who work daytime jobs.

Milford voters will see higher taxes as the total levy rises to 17.80 dollars per thousand from 16.50. Village levy increases to 2.60 and school levy to 11.30, while the county cut drops by 0.30. Batavia Volunteer Fire Department led by Chief George Gregg saved Lee Miller's home on Victoria Avenue from a roof blaze blamed on chimney sparks. Firefighters arrived five minutes after the alarm at noon Thursday. two roof holes were burned. Mrs. Miller credited the quick run with preventing total loss. Miller works at Carroll-Jameson Machine Tool Co.

Milford Man Dies After Self Inflicted Gunshot
Lester L. Thacker 30 of Milford died at Christ hospital after a 22 caliber pistol shot in his home. He was a Wright plant employee and leaves wife three children and parents. Funeral services were handled by Craver Funeral Home Milford. No motive established and friends say he appeared in good spirits earlier that day.
