Lewis Spears named chair of the Pierce township Volunteer Firemen's Dependence Board to oversee a state fund for firemen and dependents. Paul Berry elected secretary with Eugene Jennings and trustees Luther Pollitt and Archer Knause. two members are fire department choices and two are trustees, who elect a fifth nonofficial member. Pierce must contribute $500. the fund pays $50 monthly to totally disabled firemen, $1000 to widows plus $50 monthly in case of fatality, and $12.50 monthly to other dependents with a $50 cap. BMOP Hamlet and similar groups are exempt from funding.

A county wide ox roast will be held Saturday from noon until dark on the Williamsburg Community Center grounds. The ox will be barbecued in a large pit by expert cooks for 12 hours. Proceeds support Community Center improvements. Plates include barbecue ox roast, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, bread and butter, and a beverage.

Illness Closes Clermont County Schools Across District
A statewide illness outbreak caused Clermont County to close eight high schools and seven elementary schools. About 5,000 pupils were absent Monday with Goshen and Batavia reporting hundreds of ill students. Judge Imposes 1 Year Sentence On Rath Distributing
Floyd M. Rath operator of Rath Distributing Co in Amelia was sentenced to one year in the Ohio Penitentiary by Brown County Common Pleas Judge John H Houston. He pled guilty to multiple indictments with concurrent sentences including one year for larceny by trick. The case showed he kited checks to cover business losses involving 48881 dollars with First National Bank Batavia prosecuting. The surety company covered potential losses. No stay of execution was granted. Rath was described by Amelia townsmen as a generous promoter of the community.
