Clermont officials win ruling on salary increases

Visiting Judge Richard Cole of Clark County ruled on October 18 that Substitute House Bill 1122 was unconstitutional. Clermont County and Clermont Camp had filed a mandamus suit on December 31, 1980, alleging section 3 of ASHB 1122 violated Article II, Section 20 of the Ohio Constitution as applied to county funds for raises.

Sheriff drug bust expands in Clermont Warren counties

Clermont and Warren counties saw thirty drug arrests by Friday noon Oct 16 as part of a large bust. Most detainees faced hearings in Common Pleas Judge Louis Schwartz court and many were released on recognizance bonds. Batavia officer Edward Probst was indicted on one count of trafficking in marihuana, with details pending further information.

Armstrong withdraws zoning bid for double-wide mobiles

Armstrong Homes pulled its request to change Batavia Township zoning to allow double-wide mobile homes in single family areas. At a Sept 24 meeting, over 60 residents opposed the proposal as the Batavia Zoning Board voted 10-0 against it and sent recommendations to the trustees. Armstrong said he was not worried by the outcome despite a negative factor.

Batavia Woman Given Suspended Sentence for Welfare Fraud

A' 33 year-old Batavia resident Sharon Marie Jackson was sentenced in Clermont County Common Pleas Court to a three year probation on charges of illegally receiving 1841 in Aid to Children Dependent and 925 in benefits. Judge John L. Watson approved the suspended prison term of one to five years last Thursday.

Three new parks planned for Union Township

Union Township trustee Kerry Tarvin aims to acquire nearly 20 acres of dormant land at nominal deed transfer cost to create three parks. About seven acres near Witham Woods may work but could be pricey in a commercial area. Additional parcels near Beechmont Woods and Summerside Estates are small and may pose vandalism and surveillance concerns. Tarvin will report new developments at the next meeting in October.

Ford Clermont taxes: county gains 4.7 million in 1981

Ford Motor Company's 550 ton transmission plant boosted Clermont County tax receipts to 4,704,095.93 in 1981, the largest ever. The Great Oaks Vocational School District received 188,163, while individual taxes benefited from equipment and inventory valued at 110.7 million in 1980, up 1.7 million from 3 million previously paid.
