A faithful daily record from Pensacola through Alabama and Florida marches. The writer notes skirmishes, river crossings, corduroy roads, prairies, and camps, detailing siege days, captures, and the fall of Mobile. The diary ends with embarkation to Galveston and sickness en route.
State board of health releases a pamphlet urging strict isolation of diphtheria cases and comprehensive hygiene. Key measures include dedicated sick rooms, no cross contamination, separate dishware, room disinfection, and avoidance of public gatherings until physicians declare non contagion. It also warns against kissing, shared cups, and crowded unventilated spaces. A medical authority recommends inhaling vapors of turpentine and carbolic acid from a simmering kettle to purify the air.
The Clermont County Teachers Association met October 9 at Batavia New Town Hall with W E Potts presiding. Mr G W Malott and his daughter Rosa of Mt Oreb, en route to visit Oscar Davis in Milford, nearly drowned crossing a water filled creek bed near a dangerous hole. They were saved by T J Lewis who carried out a strenuous rescue. Residents urged repairing the hole with stones to prevent further danger.
The town marshal of Georgetown arrested a man last Thursday for hugging his wife on the street. The couple were in their own conveyance and the husband had been drinking heavily. The article warns Brown county married men at the fair will drink nothing stronger than water.
The exposition of 1886 ended Saturday with an estimated attendance near 500000 and receipts over 110000. The event is expected to leave a surplus after payouts to guarantors and creditors.
Amelia (home) defeated Withamsville 40 to 6 in a Saturday Oct 9 clash. Umpire J. H. Cramer presided over a two hour thirty minute match with good weather and solid attendance. Amelias’ season now stands nine victories, four defeats.

A delegation from the Presbytery of Cincinnati led by D B Johnson Rev E E Millis and Rev Howard Johnson visited New Richmond to awaken deeper Sabbath school interest. They met at the Presbyterian church with Rev Parks presiding, heard addresses and songs, and discussed lesson plans and conduct for next Sabbath.
