The Rev N B Ross and his wife found a nine pound baby boy in a market basket left on their doorstep near the Wilmington pike. A note asked care until morning then to take the child to the Children's Home. The infant, wrapped in a blanket and wearing a drab skirt, appeared well cared for but fragile. Ross later placed the child in the County Infirmary as physicians warned it might not survive bottle feeding.
