Mussey resigns as Sun manager in Clermont

William Mussey, Republican candidate for state representative in Dermont and Brown counties, today resigns as general manager of The Clermont Sun Publishing Co. Batavia. He has led the firm 13 years citing full time campaign duties and a rejected leave of absence, plus unresolved disputes with publisher David W. Roberts over the East Fork Reservoir and other issues. Mussey remains a stockholder and director.

Clermont County Voter Registration Rises to 34993

The county reports 34,993 eligible voters after 918 registered last week, with 852 in Precincts and 66 at the Board of Elections. Registration before the drive was 34,075, compared with 34,273 in 1965 and 36,030 in 1964.

Board rescinds request for consolidation study

Clermont County Board of Education voters withdrew a plan for a feasibility study on school consolidation after chairman William Schroer said the state board could provide an unbiased report. Superintendent Harry Moore claimed the legislature seeks economical operations and attendance areas. critics warned the move could trigger state or federal control and affect the November election.

Bond Validation Sought By Felicity-Franklin Board

The Felicity-Franklin School District seeks court validation of a $217000 bond issue approved in May. A hearing before Judge Harold D. Nichols is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 26 in Clermont County Common Pleas Court. If denied, a $300000 alternative gym and auditorium bond proposal will go to the November ballot due to valuation changes.

Chain Crash Kills Two and Injures Seven Near New Richmond

A foggy Sunday crash on U.S. 52 west of New Richmond involving two cars and a truck killed Larry Pence 22 and Daniel S. Murphy 23 and injured seven others including two rear-seat passengers. Victims were taken to Bethesda and General Hospitals. Sgt. Howater led the investigation. Requiem Mass for Murphy held at St. Peter Church. A separate Wednesday crash near Mulberry injured a mother Barbara Roberts 35 and three children in Goshen, with Ralph Bickel cited for an improper left turn.

Runaway Truck Kills Three in Highway Collision

A runaway tractor-trailer on U S 50 and Rt 222 at 3 05 p m Tuesday struck a car then hit a paving crew worker and a second car. Lamar Ratcliff Opal Ratcliff and Sam Buchanan were killed. Rescue crews extricated the Ratcliffs over an hour. Buchanan of Covington Ky died en route to Mariemont. Everett Cochran of the state highway department noted braking failure and the vehicle veered down Backbone Hill toward Abe Wenders eastbound car.

Building Permit Income Dwindles in September report

Building and remodeling permit income fell to 571 in September as Alfred Ginn noted the low figure to Clermont County Commissioners. New construction totaled 24 permits at an estimated 249 750, remodeling 11 permits at 5992, plus 10 occupancy certificates. total work value 255 742. Dog warden Wise reported 197 dogs collected, 157 destroyed, 137 cats destroyed and 48 dogs placed in homes. Commissioners accepted a welfare worker resignation and approved clinic equipment bids, staff procurement, and county physician support for the Well-Child Clinic. An Hinch Avenue survey request prompted legal opinion from the Prosecuting Attorney. Tate Trustees offered road materials and requested surveying. A Route 232 accident near Wilson Road involved a Ratcliff car and a Hugh Major Co. tractor-trailer, caused guard rail damage and traffic delays. patrols and local emergency services responded.
