New Richmond Girl Piano Tuner Gains Noted Distinction

Juanita Davis, a 19 year old from New Richmond, is Clermont County's only girl piano tuner and the second female graduate of Cincinnati Conservatory's Piano Technology Dept. She trains uprights and grands, explains temperament tuning, and aims to start her own business while coming from a family with multiple musicians. Her father Willard, mother Hazel, and many relatives play piano, trombone, violin, guitar, organ, and trumpet.

Bethel Drought Area Ruling Delays Deputy Commissions

Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks reports new commissions will be issued to special deputies after a ruling on industrial insurance eligibility. He revoked the commissions September 23 and notes the decision protects both deputies and the county. James H. Lewis and his large family register at the University of Cincinnati Evening College, with Lewis pursuing a bachelor of philosophy while working as an engineer at General Electric in Lockland.

Bethel Seeks Drought Declaration to Restore Water

State and federal officials weighed declaring Bethel a drought area after the Bethel waterworks closed its mains indefinitely due to a water shortage. Representative James G. Polk urged President Eisenhower to designate the drought area and to direct the Army Engineers to pipe water from Lake Grant in Brown County. Polk met Bethel officials and visited Clermont villages to assess the shortage as Governor Lausche dispatched state safety chief Filty to investigate.

Auto Crash Injures Three On Woodville Road Bridge Abutment

Three people injured when a car hit a bridge abutment on Woodville Road swung and landed atop the opposite side. They were taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Montre, Monroe ambulance from Milford. Driver Estill Wilder 37 Norwood head and arm injuries possible rib fractures. Wife Mabel minor injuries. Richard Ford 31 Norwood brother in law most seriously hurt with both arms broken and severe facial injuries.

Plans Set for Mt Carmel PTA Festival and Ham Dinner

Plans are underway for the annual PTA festival and ham dinner in Mt. Carmel Glen-Este sponsored by the Ways and Means Committee. Henry A. Police Section Inspection Scheduled By Instructors

In Goshen Ohio the 11th Mobile Support Group will inspect 75 member Police Section of the Ohio Civil Defense at 8:00 p m at the high school. Approval Needed For Planting Of Wheat For 1954

Clermont County farmers planning to plant wheat for green manure cover crop or hay in 1954 must obtain approval from the County PMA Committee before seeding. Chairman Thomas Hill notes all wheat allotment holders seeking seed for such purposes or above allotment require prior committee consent prior to seeding time following the wheat quota referendum of August 14 which passed by 90 percent.

Amelia Hires James E. Lothrop as New Village Attorney

James E. Lothrop, 28, a World War II infantry intelligence veteran with banking and insurance investigation experience, has begun his law practice in Amelia. He passed the bar in August and chose Amelia for its growth opportunities, commuting from Batavia. He also writes short stories.

Bethel Seeks State and Federal Aid for Drought Village

Representative Hayden said repairs at the East Fork dam are feasible with minimal effort and that Richard Pope of Civil Defense in Washington was due in Bethel to decide on federal aid. Hayden said efforts are under way to secure both state and federal funds for Bethel and nearby drought-affected areas.

Bethel and Williamsburg Officials Restrict Water Use

Peterson directs a Washington Civil Defense official to assess disaster relief eligibility. Local trucking firms Verkamp Withrow Oil Co Myers and Duckworth Coal Co aid Bethel Williamsburg. Whitt Buys Adamson Hardware in New Richmond

J B Whitt Clermont County plumber buys Adamson Hardware on Front Street. The firm will be Whitt Hardware Plumbing and Heating with a grand opening planned for Saturday October 10. The hardware store will keep its line of appliances and hardware plus a 5c and 10c merchandise sideline.
