Miss Bayha Wins State Prize in Corn Growing Contest
Miss Rhodapear Kyrlack Bayha of Batavia wins Governor Willis's second prize in a statewide corn growing contest. From 17 contestants 15 year old Bayha produced 120 bushels of yellow dent corn on one acre with her own labor and guidance from Prof. Blair. The crop was planted by her father and cultivated by Bayha after planting. The $28 fertilizer and measurement by neighbors secured the official weighing. She earns a Washington trip on the Corn Special Excursion and may sell the seed corn for over $200 if prices rise. She joins the state trip next week in Cincinnati.

Deputies Salaries Set by County Board in November
County commissioners on November 20 fixed deputies salaries for county officials. Probate judge and recorder will receive 840 00 each, sheriff and clerk deputies also 840 00, with the time for tax collection extended to January 25. The treasurer’s deputy is paid more due to tax collection duties and law restrictions. Auditor gains extra pay for additional clerks during duplicate preparation.

Butter fat price soars as Batavia creamery leads sales
Clermont County Creamery at Batavia paid 40 cents per pound last week the highest price yet. Superintendent M F Ross reports rapid sales for all plant output. The butter is of fine flavor and color and in great demand wherever sold, with Batavia producing most local butter. Country butter is nearly extinct.

Batavia Schools Stage Major Benefit Evening
Batavia high school auditorium hosted a Mother's Club benefit on Friday November 24 drawing a large crowd. Pupils from Miss Horn and Miss Anstead staged The Magic Curtain of the Past with songs drills and folk dances while the Batavia orchestra and high school quartet performed. Refreshments were served and proceeds funded the school library as the new building showcased its laboratories manual training room domestic science and classrooms under Supt O F Lee.

Condemnation Suit Verdict in Clermont Court
In Clermont County Probate Court a condemnation case involving property owned by Mr. Reed and sought by the Board of Education for a new school ended with a verdict of 2180 for Reed. The case, presided by Judge N G Cover, had witnesses valuing the property between 800 and 3000, and the Board bears the litigation costs. The Bethel district plans a further 30000 school building.

W F Shaw Dies In Batavia After Illness
W F Shaw superintendent of the Sitsvia Brick Works died at home after a brief illness. He was 87, a respected figure and Masonic lodge member. Born in Tennessee he came to Batavia about four years ago and was buried there after services. a widow and stepson survive.

Death of Rev Milton Zink Former Pastor in Hillsboro
Clergyman Milton P. Zink, once pastor in Hillsboro, died at his home after a period of illness. He was about 72 and had remained in good health until recently. He was the sole surviving member of the original Cincinnati conference.
