After court rulings in Batavia favoring the town, council plans to contract with the G&P Company for daytime electric service. A meter will measure usage, with four town sections and small added costs. The old plant remains for one year while the new system is tested, with a possible purchase or return to the old setup later.

Valeria Horner born July 6 1861 Pine Grove Kentucky died October 25 1916 aged 55 8 19 married January 8 1880 to George W Alexander eleven children four sons two daughters four brothers four sisters six grandchildren survive her. A devout M E church member since age twelve she lived in Kentucky most of life and moved to Afton five years ago where she was a trusted neighbor and friend. The family mourns yet believes she rests in a blessed eternal life.

Andrew Wasner 77 died at his Batavia home Monday morning after long illness. Born in Wittenburg Germany he came to the United States at age nine and lived most of his life here as a respected shoemaker. Funeral at family residence Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Simpson officiating, Union Cemetery burial. Survived by widow four daughters and four sons.
New Richmond suffered a major blaze Thursday night at 7 o clock destroying the Fridman Lumber Co saw mill. Local firemen and citizens saved stock and adjoining buildings. Estimated loss 7500 with 4000 insurance. Mill sold for 5500 to the trustee. one bid of 3500 would have kept it operating. About 20 workers may lose jobs. Origin unknown. no party blamed.

County commissioners met in regular session onNovember 8 to approve payments. The list includes pike repairs, supplies, lumber, burial soldier, coal, bridge work, culvert, and wages for a winter infirmary fireman at $00 per month.

George R. Griffin elected to represent Owen Greene and Sullivan counties by a strong majority. Sullivan leads with about 1,000 votes, Greene about 100, Owen around 147. Griffin is a former Batavia boy and son of the late George Griffin who ran a hotel at Main street for many years.

Batavia residents have spent the past three weeks cleaning streets and yards in anticipation of winter. Leaves are cleared, lawns look green and trimmed, and the town presents a tidy appearance as the season approaches.
Highland county residents Thurber Grabill and George Burton suffered severe shredder accidents last week. Grabill lost the first joints of two fingers and nearly lost his hand while clearing a clog. Burton was thrown by a belt while oiling, breaking his jaw and shoulder with a bruised left side. he is expected to recover.

Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Vanosdol aged 84 and 81 celebrate their sixtieth anniversary at home in Williamsburg Ohio on October 29 1916 with about eight relatives. The event featured yellow and white chrysanthemums a white wedding bell décor and an elegant dinner. Their three daughters three grandchildren and one great granddaughter attended along with numerous relatives and friends from across Ohio and neighboring states.
