Obituary for James Leming of Perintown 1840 1919

James Leming, fourth of seven, born December 1840 on a Galley Hill farm near Perintown, lifelong farmer. Civil War veteran of the 168th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, married Margaret Malott in 1867 with four children, later remarried Carrie Jones as stepfather to her daughter. Active in community work, school boards, and roads, died November 7, 1919 after a five year illness, aged 78. Funeral held November 9 at the Perintown Methodist church, with interwoven remembrances from family and friends.

Abstract of Vote on Constitutional Amendments and Good Roads Levy

Abstract of official Clermont County ballots for Tuesday November 4th shows Prohibition amendments and acts passing by majorities from 875 to 1040. Good Roads Levy carried by a large margin while the classification act was rejected by 2272. Six issues table presents county results.

Quiet Election Marks Batavia Vote Totals

The November 4 election proved quiet with slow voting and booths often filling. Batavia results show mayoral wins for M. F. Ross, treasurer Ed Damford, marshal candidates Henderson and Cameron, and various council and township officials elected with wide vote margins. Normal School notes follow.

The Normal Schools class grows to eighteen with Miss Kathleen Zitt teaching. The first semester offers Music, Methods, Psychology, Hygiene, General Science, Drawing, and Physical Education. Trac tion line hopes hinge on Kroger plan retry

Residents along the Owensville to Hillsboro tram line cling to hope of resuming service with aid from B H Kroger after consultations with local road directors. If a paying proposition exists the line may reopen. A proposed $100000 stock issue would fund continuation, with Clermont Brown counties each receiving a quarter and Highland county the remainder, handed to Kroger. The fundraising began Tuesday evening. The Batavia Woman's Club meets Saturday November 16 at Mrs McDonald residence with Belgium themed program led by Mrs Bishop Mrs Lytle readings from Angèle Meisch Baker and music including song At Evening by Mrs B E Rush.

Ford Taken During Cincinnati Trip

C. L. Jones of near Greenberry and his family drove to Cincinnati for winter provisions. After unloading at the last store, their Ford and belongings vanished. Police recovered the car in Norwood that night with contents gone, and the thieves escaped, later offering the car for sale to a garage man.

Better Mail Service Sought Along Swing Line

Since part of the Swing line from Owensville to Hillsboro was discontinued, towns along the route lose mail service. Marathon and Owensville receive mail via Williamsburg and Batavia once daily, drawing complaints. Efforts for improved service are under way likely with Baldwin back line connections. Jack Knauer reports his fox hound Bess won third prize in Adams county fox hunts last week and is noted for speed and reputation.

Mrs Fyffe Dennis born in Xenia Ohio daughter of Reverend William Fyffe and Sarah Raper died November 8 1919 at age eight months and six days after a life marked by religious devotion and family care She married Barney Sutton in Amelia Ohio then lived in Batavia where she raised Ila Harry and Agnes After Barney died she married Harry Dennis and survived by Agnes her only child The note honors her Christian fortitude and lists Prov 31 27 as guiding verse

Batavia Observes Armistice Day With Parade and Talk

Batavia held services for the first Armistice Day anniversary on November 11 1919. Citizens joined a parade from the school to the town hall where Bill H Speidel spoke. Local businesses closed and soldiers in uniform joined the procession. Frankin township honored James H Wise with Croix de Guerre exercises at Felicity school park. Dolly Spencer of Milford broke her wrist after a fall on residence steps. she was a long-time Clermont county probation officer.

Boy Kidnapped in Monterey Seeks Canada Bound Escape

A 12 year old boy Paul Hopping disappeared from school and was last seen with A B Murphy once a marine, now in Australia. Wires buzzed but no trace found as authorities report no arrest since the boy left with parental consent and later texted from St Louis en route to Canada.

Farwell to Lee W Hitch longtime Bantam resident dies at 75

Lee W Hitch former Cler monter and Bantam resident died at his Norwood home last Friday after a long illness. A heavy tobacco buyer and land owner he was 75. Survivors include his widow and son Bert ram. In winters he and his wife spent time in Florida.
