Halloween Party at Masonic Lodge Pleases Members
A large crowd attended the Eastern Star Chapter Halloween party at the Masonic lodge room last Saturday. Masks varied with unmasking revealing guesses about identities. A mid winter animal show led by Mrs. M. S. Griffith and ring master Mrs. Minnie Griffith featured monkeys bears alligators lions and an English speaking owl. A snake act failed to connect. About 200 guests enjoyed a Halloween lunch amid yellow and black decor and Jack o lanterns.

Heavy Loss To Corn Crop From Heat And Rain
A spread in the region recounts an unusual two week period of hot weather followed by rain. Farmers had just cut late planted corn when shocks heated and fodder and corn were lost in many fields. One upland farmer reportedly lost 26 acres. Ears show mold at the ends and are not fit for cribbing.
Batavian Native Cliff Kain Stricken In Cincinnati
Cliff Kain, once of Batavia and now living in Cincinnati, suffered what was described as a stroke last Thursday. Relatives from Batavia rushed to his bedside. he remained unconscious today. Kain, longtime employee of The Cincinnati Post Company, is brother to Batavia Postmaster Kain and G. H. Kain. Local friends wish him a speedy recovery. The Second Methodist church Woman's Home Missionary Society presented a pulpit suite to the church, praising the society's work.

Batavia High Teachers Stage Elaborate Armory Halloween Party

Found Dead in Barn Near Branch Hill Church
William Rueppel a 67 year old German farmer living near Branch Hill church was found dead in his barn last Saturday. No signs of violence or struggle were present and heart trouble is suspected. He was in good health recently and burial will be at Batavia on Tuesday.

Red Bridge Narrow Escape With Road Roller Passage
Last week Batavia township trustees used a county road roller to work near Lytle Hill and Davis Pike. The Red Bridge over the town was crossed with the heavy machine despite cracked timbers and three broken stringers, narrowly avoiding collapse and costly replacement.
