Wm C McGill a Bantam Presbyterian deacon posted 500 bond in common pleas for an assault on Mrs Deal keeper of the Bantam toll gate. During road repairs last summer he allegedly drew a penknife and tried to cut the gate rope after paying no toll, leaving Mrs Deal with a slight scratch and McGill unable to pass the gate delaying his passage about three miles.

Mrs J S Griffith died at her Batavia home Friday in her 76th year after a short pneumonia illness. Born Amelia Eder in Rockville Maryland August 5 1816 she married James Harris in 1838 and later John S Griffith with whom she had seven children, four surviving. Funeral at the family residence featured Rev Schultz Judge L Swing and Frank White with large floral tributes.
