Two Lebanon milliner Miss Varrie Logen and Western Star compositor Miss Ethel May Sellers disappeared last week causing local concern. They have since been traced to Huntington West Virginia where Sellers works as a typesetter and Logen makes hats. Sellers is daughter of Ephramin Sellers prominent Warren county politician and former county treasurer.
Monroe township held its commencement at the M E church in Laurel on Friday evening May 26 under supervisor O W Cann. A strong program honored the graduating class and teachers with a notable audience. The class includes Mises Iya Corbin Bessie Turner Rena Bainum Pearl Corbin Willie Leeds representing Nicholaville Laurel Clermontville and Number Eight with teachers Mrs Nichols Mr Trees Miss Cannon and Denham.
The Batavian orchestra directed by P. F. Jamieson entertained Batavia residents Friday evening with a delightful slumber concert. Though young, the band proved its merit, matching larger ensembles in quality and earning praise for artistic rendering and instrumental mastery. Batavia lauds Jamieson’s group as a capable local treasure.
Samuel Page was appointed postmaster at Felicity replacing Mra Olliver. Molen was removed, and Geo H Swick appointed at Bantam succeeding L W Hitch, who was removed.

Batavia observed Decoration Day with a City Hall address by Captain L D Manning to a full hall. The G A R led a procession to the cemetery with the Sons of Veterans and K P Uniformed Rank following. Gravesites were decorated as flowers were laid, and services at Olive Branch were reported as well attended.
A brown mare belonging to J R Nichols vanished at feeding. Search found her in a ravine ten feet deep, buried by loose earth after rains undermined the bank. She nearly suffocated but was rescued and recovered after care.
Warren county farmer Betsinger faced a dying mare owned by Kinsey Thurston who broke her hip while nearing foaling. He killed the mare with an ax to end suffering and surgically removed the foal with a knife. The colt survived and shows promise, marking a rare early birth and recovery observed by local horsemen.
The son of David Wilson of Bethel was killed in Chicago last Saturday by his employer after an argument. The body was returned home on Monday and buried this morning in the village cemetery. Dr. D. W. Allinwop of Siloam Arkansas recommends Simmons Liver Regulator with broad claims of efficacy.
Over a hundred scholars graduate at the city hall program starting 1 30 PM. Notable events include invocations, musical solos by Miss Mabel Cowen and Miss Minnie Shafer, and an address by Supt. Isaac Mitchell. Students from county schools participate in the exercises and presentations.
Miss Anna Griffith plans a summer in Palestine while Susie Moore returns from Linwood. Many others visit relatives, attend a Cincinnati law school graduation, or celebrate engagements and social events in Batavia and surrounding towns.

A copperhead bit Elvert Glanoy's plowing horse Monday near town. The horse is in danger, a gallon of whisky was given, and the snake was killed. This marks the sixth venomous snake killed by Mr. Glanoy this year. Local woods travelers are warned to keep away as the snake problem persists. An advertisement endorses Ayer's Sarsaparilla as a blood and health aid.

The Stonelick township horse-thief protective association will hold a meeting on Tuesday evening June 6 at 7 o'clock to transact important business.
The Mt Pisgah home of John MRheinhart was found afire last Monday morning. The owner woke from kerosene odor and smoke, but prompt action saved the premises which were heavily doused with coal oil and fired from the rear. Rheimhart suspects no known enemy.
In Bellaire a jury initially awarded the plaintiff $10 more than claimed. They were sent back to correct the amount and returned with a verdict for the defendant.
The Secretary of the Interior Hoke Smith concludes that only disabled soldiers unable to earn a livelihood will qualify for pension benefits. The move limits aid, arguing most veterans would not meet the stricter standard, while critics claim it tightens relief for soldiers.

A section hand on the O P and W Railroad near Peebles was struck by a locomotive after alighting from a train. While approaching tools on the track he stepped into the rail path and the front wheel mangled his foot. Doctors Wittenmyer and Omas amputated the foot at the ankle. He has a wife and five children dependent on him.
W B Clay of Wil lameburg township swears out a peace warrant against Isaac Keithlan before Squire Nichols claiming he fears unlawful assault or violence to him and family. Clay, tall and heavy, gave security for costs and plans to summon a constable for service after contacting the squire by telephone.
John Stiles, a Batavia boy studying in Delaware, traveled to Cincinnati and left a bag with a driver at the Palace hotel. The bag, containing a new suit, underclothes, and trinkets, did not return. The column urges keeping grip and driver details in custody and notes a Liver Regulator ad ending with a moral.
