A comrade writes from Pririspura LAnpina April 26 1862 detailing Asbury's death during Grant’s Tennessee campaign. The 59th Regiment fought a battery amid dense scrub. Asbury fell as he led a charge, later dying in field care. The soldier honors him and notes his grave near the site of sacrifice for his country.
Letters describe Asbury's battle–wrought return from illness at Columbia Kentucky and his steadfast duty despite a hemorrhage of the lungs. A captain recalls his bravery, while other excerpts criticize the Van Wyck committee's conduct and call for reform.
Private JACKSON of Company L Sth O V Cavalry reports from the Tennessee River area in May 1862. The 5th O V Cavalry, under Colonel Taylor, camps near Farmington and Purdy road about thirteen miles from Pittsburg Landing and seven miles from Corinth. The march south, rain delays, camp life, skirmishing with rebel pickets, and hopes of visiting Corinth are described along with weary soldiers longing for home and May parties in Clermont.
