Expedition off Florida coast reports in-depth survey and actions
Lieutenant Powell recounts the two month naval expedition from Key West to Cape Florida and the New River region. The mission aimed to deter Seminoles, destroy camps, and map topography, including Indian settlements and river routes, with several reconnoiters and river ascents. The crew reported no durable Indian presence and returned December 8.
