Sleepy Driver Blamed in Fatal US 52 Crash
State officials say a sleepy driver caused a fatal crash on US 52 one and a half miles west of here. Clarence Spaulding, 29, of Dingess WV, died in the wreck. Two others, James Lyans, 18, of Lenore WV, and Jimmie Adams, of Chicago, were seriously injured and taken to Christ Hospital. The accident occurred with no skid marks found on the highway.

Lightning Causes $50,000 Fire at Thriftway Market
A morning blaze at Thriftway Market on Beechmont Avenue caused more than 50 thousand dollars in damage, mainly from smoke. Fire officials credit a lightning strike that hit service wires and ignited a table in the meat room, with the fire burning several hours before discovery. Firefighters from Anderson Township, Williamsville, and the Underwriter Salvage Corps worked from 4:50 a.m. to 11 a.m. to contain the flames.

Milford deputies report weekend vandalism damaged a quickly moved in trailer on Cemetery Lane causing about 400 dollars in loss. The trailer is occupied by Beatrice Howell of Garfield Avenue. Indiana Residents Suffer Injuries In Auto Accident
Four Munice, Indiana residents were injured Saturday night when the car they rode in was rear ended on U.S. 52, two miles east of New Richmond. Driver of their car was Aitkins M. Cline, 51. The other vehicle was Halbert B. Griffin, 71, of Moscow Route 1. Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks filed the report.

The Clermont County Traffic Safety Council identified three danger spots on county roads at its meeting. Elkton Road at State Route 222 two miles south of Batavia needs road-surface repairs. The Rt 74 dip near Summit Road at Emmet Prindle’s farm requires warning signs. U.S. 50 Backbone Hill one mile east of Rt 222 also needs signs due to fatal accidents. The group criticizes narrow, poorly repaired state roads with sharp curves and calls for speed-limit signs along routes between Batavia and Rt 222 and between New Richmond and Lindale.
