Edenton School May Transfer To Clinton District

Edenton elementary has 112 pupils and no high school. A petition with 158 signatures seeks moving Edenton into Clinton County district with a Blanchester high school. The Board of Elections meets June 3 to decide placing the issue on the November ballot. Clinton County must approve the transfer.

State Decides On By-Pass Rt. 74 with New Route Planned

A May journal entry from Columbus shows Rt. 74 to bypass Mt. Carmel business district using an eastern route. Work on Mt. Carmel would start in 1960 or 1961, while the Batavia-Willowville section begins this year with bids in June and construction in July.

Association to Continue Rt. 74 Efforts Mt. Carmel

Mt Carmel Business Men's Association voted to reaffirm support for a new Rt 74 through the community. They oppose only relocating a fraction of a mile and argue it is economical to build in the present right of way tied to a four lane hook up. They plan to persuade the state to change its decision with support from Rep John Hayden and Auditor Earle Cinkaid.

Governor O Neill forms Keep Ohio Beautiful committee

Governor C William O Neill gathered about 55 state wide groups to form a Keep Ohio Beautiful committee. The April 24 luncheon at the Governor's Mansion outlined a coordinated anti litter program for highways parks beaches and private property with Douglas R Stanfield named chairman. Laura Freed of Keep America Beautiful spoke and Columbus headquarters on 139 E Gay St was announced with Will Hellerman as coordinating secretary.

County-Wide Business Unit May Be Formed This Month

A county wide business association is forming in Clermont County with over 60 businessmen urged to meet on May 22 at the D X Ranch. Organizers from sponsors of the Your Future Is Great in a Growing America Your Future Is Secure in a Growing Clermont campaign plan to promote projects boosting business and county welfare. Building permits rose to 204 in the county this year versus 106 in April 1957 and 156 in April 1956, signaling stronger economy and population growth ahead.

Batavia police chief Ed Colonel reports that 166 autos and trucks were inspected in a voluntary safety check last weekend. Aide W A Kalchek and deputies Jack Ritchie and Glenn Ankrom assisted. Fourteen vehicles failed inspection. one truck and two autos later passed after repairs.
