The county auditor announces a June 18 1914 meeting at 10 a m in the Batavia courthouse to elect the five member County Board of Education. One member must be from a village district. three from rural districts. Townships vote via their board presidents. each township names one voter to cast the township vote.
James A. Smith of Batavia wed Miss Marie Creekbaum of Moscow in probate court on May 6 with Reverend Lavender officiating and witnesses Deputy Young and the groom’s brother. On Monday morning Robert W. Lusk and Miss Fern Greenham, both of Batavia, were married at the Presbyterian Manse with Reverend Simpson and Mrs. Lavender witnessing.
Next Saturday a large county sale in Amelia will feature prime building lots along the traction line near the G P depot, close to churches and schools in a strong town. John Williamson, sales manager, will oversee the event with one lot to be given away free.
The district committee for the annual Eastern Star picnic met in Batavia Masonic hall to finalize arrangements for the June 24 event. Delegates from district lodges attended. communications go to Mrs Byron Williams, Williamsburg, Ohio. Each chapter to say what they will furnish. a basket dinner for two will be served.
James W. Manning a longtime resident and local artist died May 6 at his Main Street home after several illness. He left a widow and two daughters and will be buried Friday at Felicity where he once lived. Funeral services will be held from his residence in the afternoon.
Elaborate Memorial Day plans at Owensville I O O F cemetery with morning flower service and afternoon dedication of a 16 ton cannon. Speakers include Governor Cox Chief Justice Nichols Rev J P Ward and J L Roudebush. Cannon rests on an 18 by 20 foot cement tablet listing 260 soldiers' names. Public invited for May 30 events.
Ledger of payments lists names such as G C McGlassen John Gall C H Flora and Wm Broadhaven for ditching snow and culvert work with figures including 725 225 1500 and 225. Also shows payments to Loveland Lumber Co Fridman Lumber Co and Stakalta Mfg Co for supplies and carpentry and to county engineer A W Holland and N C Patten for various road and bridge tasks and to probate officials for supplies.

At a special Bata via council meeting last Monday bids opened for town hall roof and gutter work. The contract went to T. D. Carter & Son as the lowest bidders.
The Batavia high school senior class presents three one act plays at the town hall on Saturday evening May 28. Admission costs 25 cents with 15 cents for children under 12. Tickets on sale at Nash's pharmacy from May 19.
Readers note the pastor’s absence due to Mrs. B’s brother’s death broke the services last Sabbath. The evening choir and Sunday school were fine, Dr. Van Pelt’s sermon pleased all, and next Sabbath marks the 100th anniversary sermon at 10 80 with Epworth League program at 7 80.
Deputy Grand Matron Mrs. Colline of Milford inspected Batavia Chapter on Monday night with 66 visitors from Ohio Violet Chapters and Cincinnati and others. Refreshments were served and the visitors returned on their special car at 10:80.
Lemon Larkin and Miss Alice Dimmitt were married last Wednesday at the bride’s home at 8 p.m. Rev. Lavender performed the ceremony in the presence of immediate families and friends. The couple will live on Delta avenue in Cincinnati where Larkin has an insurance position. The couple and families receive many well wishes from the Courier and friends.
Rev B B Lavender, pastor of the Presbyterian church here, is among 26 Lane Seminary graduates to receive diplomas on May 14 in Cincinnati. He and his family will move to Tennessee in June where he has found employment, and friends herepart with them reluctantly.

Twelve hundred entries were filed with the Agricultural at Columbus last week. Only three came from Clermont County: George Fox Williamsburg No 8 Willard Frenner Pierce Jp Harley Hutchinson Jackson. Charles Sheriff and wife of Stone lick township were arrested near Owensville last Monday night. They pled guilty at a hearing and were bound over to the October grand jury and sent to the county jail in default of 500 bail each. They received 80 days in the Cincinnati work house and a 50 fine plus costs, and stood committed until paid. They assigned power of attorney to E C Ely before departure. Local petit larceny has plagued Owensville. the couple have two dependent children at home.
Five members of the A. M. E. church were baptized last Sunday in the East Fork below town at noon. The new congregation is growing, though two other colored churches exist in town. A large crowd of sightseers attended as is common on such occasions.
The late Mrs. Ann Dustin's household goods and personal effects were auctioned publicly last Saturday. The estate is valued around $1000 with proceeds to be paid to six heirs, two in Cincinnati and four in the west, after monument costs and advertising.
Charles Seyler, the garage man, takes Kyle Moyer as partner due to rising business. A new underground gasoline tank is installed for protection and efficient fueling. The firm is ready to handle all repair work with ample work lined up.
Two boys mushroom hunting near Remington discovered a suspicious object yielding 16 pairs of men’s shoes and a box of dry goods with Portsmouth addresses. The goods likely came from a freight train and were taken to a field. thieves escaped with items easy to carry. No ownership or thief clues found.
G H Eveland and his two sons of Miamiville started two houses on their Terrace Park subdivision and a large lumber warehouse to run an extensive lumber business. Several desirable building lots are for sale.

Roy Hutson wed Farley Bennett of Amelia on May 9 at 4 pm. Chas J Starzman tied with Emma Dillinger of Loveland on May 12 at 8 am with Mrs Burdsall as sole witness. W W McCullough of Washington to was seen among friends Monday.
O L Cast of Edenton, representing Talbert Zollar Lumber and Veneer Co of Cincinnati, closed a major regional timber sale in Highland county. The deal covers 90 to 100 acres of virgin white oak. Purchase price not disclosed. Logs to be shipped to Winton Place. land returns to seller after logging.
