Samuel Lewis urges township trustees to fix school district boundaries using existing township and section lines. He argues surveyors are unnecessary except for unfamiliar areas and explains a practical method to map districts by fixed corners and prominent landmarks while keeping lines regular and convenient. The note appears in the Common School Director and asks editors to publish it widely.
The Dutton Corn, praised for early maturity and strong yield, is favored by northern and middle states. A February 21 1838 Philadelphia Agricultural Society paper notes it can be planted late May or June and ripen by early September, with hard yellow kernels and twelve row structure.
A nine year old son of Mr Bell, a Hanover and Lombard street bookbinder, died Monday night from apoplexy after walking on his hands and turning up. A physician in Alexandria cites European reports supporting belladonna to lessen Scarlatina's nervous impact and possibly protect children. He notes trials showing low infection among treated cases, discusses homoeopathic links, and provides a preparation: 1 gr extract to 1 oz water with age-based dosing from 3 to 8 drops for infants, increasing by 3 drops per year.
