Judge Hulick and his son Stanley were away from their desks when century old plaster and oak laths crashed to the floor. The sudden event caused extensive damage but no injuries as workmen cleaned up and repaired the wreckage. The room was made tenable and the pair were applauded for their near miss.
Mrs Grace Dustin Hedrick mourns the death of her husband at Evansville Indiana last Wednesday after months of illness. The family's plans for the future are not yet decided.

Batavia born Thomas Glancy built a hotel career with his father James in Linwood then became proprietor of leading hotels in Waco Fort Worth and Dallas. In December he will open the 400 room Marquette hotel in Saint Louis with full appointments and appurtenances, drawing Ohioans traveling that way.
George Hamilton of Augusta Kentucky, general agent for Southern Ohio for EStrater Bros of Louisville, called on friends and customers Monday. He is well known for a genial manner and popularity with trade and public, and represents the Index brand manufactured by the Louisville firm.
The Courier juxtaposes the last muster of Company F with a new roster of 89 enrollees, 22 of whom are dead. Total Company F enrollment was 87 with 51 dead, and the added list supplies names of three year men not in the initial roll. Officers listed include Lynch, Bartlow, Molen, Banister, Reed, Avey, Anthony, Brown, Raper, Bryan, Carnahan, Hulick, Hulick, Holter, Jeffries, Lansdale, Gatch, Lane, Miley, Moore, McGrew, O Marley, Palmer, Patterson, Rust, Sinks, Townsley, Willison, Weaver, and Willis.
A fragment notes some men listed as temporary Company F soldiers were detached from their regiments, none from Clermont, and one was from the regular army. The name should have appeared in last week’s roster.
Major Julius Penn of this place rises from local schools to West Point and Denver instructor posts. He served three terms in the Philippines, aided General Corbin on his staff, and is now military secretary to General Corbin with the rank of Colonel at St. Louis.
Elaborate preparations are underway for decorating sixteen soldiers graves at Olive Branch on May 30. Services in M E church start at 1 PM with an address by William T. Irwin. The procession to the cemetery will be led by Batavia band and follows a memorial sermon by Rev Spurrier at the M E church.
The Courier reports God's Bible School will use the 207 acre Hamer farm near Mt Repose for a convention between the 15th and 25th and as the eventual permanent home. The price cited is $10,000 with about 2000 delegates expected. A grand tabernacle and multiple buildings will be erected within four years, the land will be cleared for farming, and Clermont county would see a large economic boom.
A freight train on the C. G. P. road derailed near Cedar Point after rails spread. Fireman William Keegler, about 40, was crushed when he jumped to escape. Several crew members were injured but no others died as traffic resumed after two hours. Keegler was married but lived apart from his wife.

A circuit court decision four weeks old deprives the commissioners of the right to employ county attorneys. Names published in that connection lack public authority status. The ruling also confirms E. H. Thiery as county surveyor with power to appoint assistants, making Harley Rapp’s title misleading.
Three brothers all prominent ministers will appear together in the chancel at the Presbyterian church next Sunday. E Trumbull Lee, pastor of a major Philadelphia church, will preach. Lewis Earle Lee of the North Church in Cincinnati and George Lee of the home church will join in the service. The occasion promises profit and pleasure for all.

County commissioners met in special session to award bids for multiple free turnpikes. John Gall received Ashton school house section 1 for 048, John Rau section 2 for 922, C C Rapp Woodville section 6 for 685, D C Gaskins Woodville section 1 for 559, D C Gaskins Woodville section 2 for 101, John Ray Stumpy Lane sections 1 and 2 for 1616, J W Glancy Good turnpike sections 8 and 4 for 2171, and B Rapp Shinkle turnpike section for 6865.
Abram Fiscus aged 70 of Withamsville reportedly died by his own action Friday morning. After rising early he disappeared at noon and was found near an abandoned watering well. His coat and vest lay folded by the curb with his hat atop. He had shown recent signs of mental derangement and left a family of grown children as a widow.
The Batavia township schools report 13 districts with 14 teachers. On the first day 243 pupils enrolled, 237 remained at year end, and average attendance was 90 percent. Illness reduced attendance in some districts, but overall the year was excellent with well attended programs.
The Experiment Station asks farmers to send random seed corn samples of about 100 grains this spring. If multiple varieties are planted, send a sample of each. Address packages to Experimentalist O A E 5 Wooster Ohio and mark with sender's name and address. Ten or more samples may be sent by express at the station's expense.
By order of the post office department an inspection of all rural routes in Ohio Indiana and Kentucky will be instituted May 15. Twenty inspectors will be employed whose duty it shall be to report on the efficiency of the service as to whether patrons are using regulation boxes whether carriers are conforming to the rules and to make recommendations for improvement.
Batavians welcomed ex-Auditor John W. Davis who spent a brief Sunday with his brother Judge Frank Davis and friends. He is with the Bell Telephone Company and appeared well, with Time seemingly only caressing him lightly.
