Veteran Journalist and Civil War Soldier Dies in Georgetown

Thomas J. Leeds longtime editor of the Georgetown Gazette and Civil War veteran dies at his home in Georgetown. Born in Bata via Silon he learned printing in Clermont Sun’s office. He served in the 5th Ohio cavalry, married Mary of Georgetown, and leaves grown children. Funeral services set for Georgetown this afternoon.

Odd Fellows District Mark 88th Anniversary Celebration

The Hill District Odd Fellows and families gathered in Gwensville for the 88th anniversary of the order hosted by the Boston Lodge. The event began at 10 am with greetings, music, and an address by Dr. George C. Kolb followed by a banquet and an afternoon of music readings and talks. Isaac M. Jordan delivered the principal address and Allen Glancy entertained. next year’s celebration is planned for Edenton in 1908.

Convention of Clermont County Sunday Schools Held in Batavia

The Clermont County Sunday-school convention moves from New Richmond to Batavia and will convene May 3 at 1 30 PM in City Hall. Delegates are encouraged to attend, with two from each Sunday school, and emphasis on full participation by ministers, superintendents, township officers, and teachers to gain practical, inspirational program content. George W. Behymer longtime Union Chapel resident dies at his home near Union Chapel on Saturday April 2 in his seventy ninth year. Funeral services at Union Chapel conducted by Rev. Baker and Rev. Burtaill with Masonic rites. Survived by a widow, son Homer, daughter Niba, several brothers and sisters and two grandchildren. Countywide attendance marked the obsequies as prominent local family mourned a longtime agricultural and professional figure.

Dietz Matter Set For Friday In Public Theft Case

Judge Bambach in Clermont Common Pleas to hear five indictments against L C Dietz, superintendent of the infirmary, on charges of making false and fraudulent claims. Attorneys given until Tuesday to file dilatory pleadings. Friday scheduled for ruling on motions. Potential penalties include $3000 fine and up to 15 months imprisonment. The prosecution vows a strong push for convictions on all indictments.
