Sweeping Probe Leads to Arrests in County Auditor Case

A wide ranging inquiry into the Clermont County auditor's office led to the Saturday midnight arrest of George A. Maxfield and Monday afternoon arrest of Charles A. Pringle, with former auditor B. L. Ketchum in Tennessee. All three face forgery charges. bonds set at 5000 dollars each. Investigators expect more arrests as the probe, led by Prosecutor Frank A. Roberts and State Examiner W H Howland, continues for about a month.

Cherry Fork Wins First Tri-State Coca Cola Championship

Cherry Fork defeated Vevay Indiana 86 to 29 to win the first annual tri state Coca Cola league championship at Newport Kentucky American Legion Gym on Saturday night. The consolation title went to Corinth Kentucky over Morrow Ohio. Payouts were 350 dollars to Cherry Fork and 250 to Vevay with 125 each for the consolation teams.

Governor Davey announced L Wooddell of Ravenna as the new conservation commissioner and created an assistant director role to be filled by T D Bessley of Dayton. Bert Hill of Akron named chief of lakes and parks, succeeding Gerald McCurrie. Sportsmen favored J F Atwood of Columbus, but Davey chose differently after assurances. Clermont County corn hog district officers were re elected with Byron Ross as president, Carney Roush secretary, E C Saxton treasurer, and the board to include Ross and Walter Smith. Appraisals of corn land to begin when forms arrive, with contract applications already being accepted.

Leaps to Death at Christ's Hospital

Mrs Rosella Troxell 67 wife of Rev J R Troxell leaped from a sixth floor hospital window Thursday afternoon after freeing herself from restraints and slipping from a nurse's grip. She fell onto the driveway in front of Christ's hospital where she had been an inpatient since February 25, suffering a fractured skull.

The clash between Gov. Martin Luther Davey and federal relief director Harry Hopkins escalated as Hopkins seized control of state relief. Davey filed a criminal libel warrant and a Senate committee was appointed to probe relief activities, with House resistance and GOP opposition noted.

Life Resident Eva Leonard Dies After Fall

Eva Leonard 78 died Friday at her home from injuries from a fall. She was a daughter of the late J. P. New Weed Ruling Lets Small Barley Tobacco Growers Plant Full Base

A ruling signed by the secretary of agriculture allows barley tobacco growers with base acreage 1.2 acres or less to plant in 1935 an amount equal to either their base production or 650 pounds, whichever is smaller. About 24,000 growers may qualify, though not all will opt in and production may rise by less than 2 percent.

Jordan Reelected Leader of Pure Milk Association District

Jesse L. Jordan of Bethel was reelected head of the Pure Milk Association producers in the district including Clermont and parts of Brown and Highland counties at a meeting last Thursday evening in Batavia Court House. He becomes a director of the association and announced the annual meeting set for March 28 at the St. Nicholas Hotel in Cincinnati starting at 10 a.m. Members are urged to attend.
