Tank owner Coyne freed from Clermont jail after contempt ruling

Court releases John Edward Coyne of Mt. Washington from the Clermont County Jail where he had been jailed since Sept 19 1975 for contempt. Judge Ralph A. Hill ruled the Sherman tank on Coynes Boothill Auto Graveyard property a collector's item and ordered his release citing amended Ohio law and his restoration efforts.

Health Board plans budget cuts amid township criticism

The Health Board plans to trim expenses next year, cutting nearly all nonessential programs including a $10,000 annual contract with Southwestern Ohio Control for pollution monitoring. Officials say monitoring may continue if useful, while other items face retrenchment under state law.

Complaints surface against Clermont Mental Health Center

Clermont County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board reviewed complaints against the Clermont County Mental Health Center on March 15 amid a state probe into an administrative conflict between the groups. A letter by Joy Bishop cited operator concerns about access, communication, and care. a 48 hour status report was ordered.

Clermont County Considers Mass Transit Demo Plan

Mark Whittaker and Robert Croswell outlined a three year $600000 mass transit demonstration for Clermont County. The first year would need 17 employees including 11 full time drivers and four part time drivers along with a secretary bookkeeper and dispatcher. The budget is set at $484000 with $55000 from county agency contracts and $148000 from HSB via the Manpower Program. Federal funding is sought after the three year period to sustain operation.

Moscow erosion threat looms as river retreats yard

Three years after 40 feet of Al Kappes’ front yard slid into the Ohio River, erosion threatens 20 to 25 Moscow homes. The village seeks funding from the Army Corps of Engineers, with local officials and residents pressing for aid while Kappes pledges action and charity to protect the riverfront. The National Guard rebuilt banks, and Kappes has planted thousands of willows at his expense. He warns neighbors face ongoing danger unless help arrives.
