County to add judge for Clermont County

County commissioners opposed the move while State Rep. Sam Bateman voted against it as the Ohio House approved a new domestic relations judge for Clermont County. The bill, part of HB 113 creating new posts statewide, would have appeared on this year's ballots but filing closed February 23. Senate hearings and possible amendments could take 10 days to two weeks.

Bissantz Awaiting Board Decision On Run Bid

Clermont County elections board met March 8 to decide if ex commissioner Harold B. Bissantz may run for his old office. Prosecutor Pattison argues he is barred by a bribery conviction. Tekulve cites possible expungement and party replacement if elected but unable to serve. The board sought McTigue's opinion by March 8 while noting Bissantz claims bi partisan support and questions about the law.

Ohio Southland West Tourism Council Forms At Meeting

About 80 officials and industry representatives approved a temporary constitution and by laws for a self funded Ohio Southland West Tourism Council. A steering committee will name the first board of directors March 19. The group aims to promote the region from Cincinnati to Columbus, leveraging heritage and natural wonders to attract travelers.

Bethel eligible for sewer grant if plans and funds approved

Clermont County would receive 75 percent of project costs to reroute Bethel sewerage to the Amelia Batavia system if applications and engineering plans win approval. The Bethel plant now faces a May 1983 tap-in ban. funding requires the sewer district to cover the remaining 25 percent and show solvency. Alan Franks of the Ohio EPA said the process hinges on approvals and financing is expected to be revenue financed.

Adoption last resort in abuse cases

Linda Wheeler of Clermont County Children's Services says adoption is not a tool to fill adoptive lists but a last resort. If parents fail to improve after foster care and permanent custody is granted, the child must find an adoptive home within 90 days or be placed with Ohio Adoption Resource. The county has placed nearly all 1983 adoptive cases, with services continuing after placement and no charge for services though legal costs fall to the adoptive parents.

Pat Evans Wins Canton State Diving Championship

Glen Este High School senior Pat Evans claimed Clermont County's 10th state diving title at the Canton event held February 2 to 26. The Gemnon state champion earned top honors as he paused in space during his winning dive. Story on page six.
