The Batavia Farmers Institute held its first annual meeting in Batavia County at City Hall last week drawing vast audiences. Lectures covered tillage, fertility, stock breeding, fertilisers and farming business with practical demonstrations and readings by local residents. Officers were re elected and a new executive committee named for next year.

Pension Statistics Report on Revolutionary Mexican War Veterans

The Cincinnati Hillsboro and Western railroad would run 100 miles from Cincinnati to Wellston via Milford Fayetteville Hillsboro Sinking Springs Piketon California and Jackson. Sixth District Convention Set For Wilmington April 25
The Sixth Congressional district committee met at the Gibson House Cincinnati to fix time and place for the convention and delegate selection for St Louis. Wilmington won the bid over Xenia with 150 delegates and 76 needed for a choice. Hon W W Savage of Wilmington named temporary chairman and James D Gardner of Ripley temporary secretary. The plan favors one convention and supports Hulick seeking a third term despite an adverse administration.

Fearful Fall Injures Well Known Owensville Contractor
Sebastian Burkle a contractor and road builder of Owensville was severely injured last Thursday when riding a young horse on the Milford and Chillicothe turnpike above Owensville. The horse balked near Meek bridge, he was thrown over the rail into the run below, striking his head on a post and sustaining deep scalp wounds and internal injuries. He was moved to Owensville by friends and given medical aid. Burkle’s parents operate a hotel in Owensville and many friends hope for his recovery despite grave concerns.

Knife, Razor and Rum Tragedy In Swisserville Home
Len Williams a colored man consumed by liquor violently attacked his wife and then his father in a Swisserville cottage. He wounded the elderly man with a knife and wounded him with a razor before neighbors stopped the carnage. The father, Mat Williams, lies severely injured but shows signs of recovery after surgery. Death of Bertha Hannold Afton teacher mourned
Bertha Hannold aged 23, eldest daughter of Joseph Hannold, died February 28 after a week of illness. Born in Owensville in October 1873, she taught about 18 months and was a 1891 graduate.
