Pioneers Reunion at Williamsburg Inspires Big Crowd

Cincinnati and Southwestern Pioneer Association held its annual reunion in Williamsburg with 300 pioneers arriving by special train. The day featured a parade, speeches by Rev. Hines and Rev. Chidlaw, poems by Mrs. Graham, races with prizes, and a grand fireworks display before the pioneers returned home. Colonel West and Frank Davis attended. many attendees over seventy were noted.

C K Davis of Bethel wins the second gold medal in the Bandle series at Bethel with a 17 of 20 score. Frank Moore of New Richmond places second winning a keg of powder and Ernst of New Richmond third, as 34 entries compete before a large crowd. Derrick for an Oil Well Hull in Goshen Township

Ed Gaskell of Shiloh in Goshen township has a contract with Frank Ferry of Cincinnati to saw timber for a large oil well derrick to be bored at Charlestown. Ferry’s company has been active for a month and seeks 5,000 acres, already leasing 1,800. Local merchants express confidence in the Goshen venture and encourage steady, honest effort.

An old time celebration planned in James Clark’s grove near Belfast on July 1 with good speakers. Andrew McGrew Sr died in Milford aged 87 or 88. born April 1800 at Ellicott’s Mills Maryland. Moved to Milford in 1805 and lived nearby for 82 years. His wife Ann McClelland died July 1885. they celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary April 26, 1886.
