The silver dies of Maryland’s colonial great seal, the third or Fendall seal, lost for nearly a century, were recovered in the Annapolis Treasurer’s office. The last known use dated to 1793, ending a long search with no trace in between.
In Erie Pennsylvania on July 25 a man stripped and jumped from a boat in the bay, dying by his own action. The boat was recovered by a pleasure steamer and search for the body continues with no clues from his pockets.
Frank G. Wittum Fred Jones and John Orendorf three youths from Canton were pulled into a whirlpool as their boat capsized on the Illinois River this morning. Their bodies were recovered this afternoon.
