Octogenarian John Dimmitt Dies After Long Illness
John Dimmitt known as Uncle John died at his Batavia home after a lingering illness. Born in 1810 in Batavia, he lived in New Richmond Felicity and Batavia, left a large family including A M Dimmitt deputy auditor and Mrs Elmira McMurchy. He married twice, first to Miss Knowles, second to Julia Whipple. A former catter by trade, he grew wealthy then lost much in security obligations. He died peacefully with family at his side after a history of faithful care by his wife and children.
