Harry Miller of Felicity is sought by police and a friend who identified him but did not know him. He hired a horse and buggy, drove to Cincinnati, sold the horse for 22 dollars to Frank Bender but was not paid until Swope identified him. Whiteman of the Gobe Tobacco Warehouse verified the sale and payment. Miller reportedly returned the carriage to Felicity while Swope searched for the horse.
John A. Kline, born July 1850 in Batavia, is a prominent artist, inventor, and business man who invests in his hometown. He ran a leading Cincinnati photo engraving firm, patented innovative cuff buttons and a foot operated music turner, and recently completed a two story Main Street block in Batavia with an iron front and ornate railing.

He was pressured, snatched the paper back twice, and the con artists fled before he could secure it. Police and banks are on alert and small notes tied to the scam have appeared in local banks.

At Hugh Rogers residence in Lebanon Mrs. Jimmy Follen borrowed gasoline and left a tin bucket where it could be found.
