Two Cincinnatians Arrested After Beer Foraging Trip

Dr Albert B Corrodi and John B Lisle both of Cincinnati were arrested at a Denison Camp after a claim of breaking and entering a Batavia warehouse and stealing about 15 gallons of beer. Bond set at 750 dollars each they were released until Grand Jury meets. If convicted the offense carries 15 years.

Batavian Passes After Brief Illness

Rome F Murphy aged 70 died of heart failure after a brief illness at his Batavia home. He lived here his whole life, worked as a carpenter and belonged to BPA 1913 1917. Survived by widow and six children. sons Frank and Ralph are Batavia contractors. Funeral at Moore Funeral Home today at 2 p m with interment in Union Cemetery.

Clermont Grange Plans Display at County Fair

Clermont Grange No. 2377 held a regular meeting on Tuesday July 11 to organize a display for the Clermont County Fair. A planning committee was formed with Estel Pringle as chair and members covering fruits canned goods vegetables fancy work dairy pantry products grains seeds decoration and other categories. A musical number for the County Grange Farm Bureau Cooperative Picnic at the fairground was also arranged. The next meeting is set for Tuesday evening July 25.

Legion Conventions Delegates Named for Ohio Posts

The District American Legion convention will be in Lebanon on July 30 with Batavia Post No. 287 delegates Arthur Murray and Earl Kincaid and alternates Sidney Vaughn and Irwin Kain. At the Ohio State Convention in Akron August 20 to 22 Batavia Post 287 is represented by Wm. F. Brossart and Arthur Red Murray as delegates and Irwin Kain and B. B. Hendrixson as alternates.

Batavia Church to Present Picture The Life of Christ

Batavia Presbyterian Church will show The Life of Christ on Thursday July 20 at 8 PM. Presented by the National Bureau of Religious and Educational Films, the film covers Christ’s life from Nativity to Ascension with scenes filmed in Europe Holy Land and Egypt. No admission charge, a free will silver offering will be collected at the close.

The Ohio National Bank of Columbus was the high bidder for 10 772.53 dollars of Batavia School District Refunding notes. Bids were opened at noon and the notes sold. The notes, offered under House Bill 282, will bear 3 percent interest.

Jan Garber to Perform at Coney Island Moonlite Gardens

Jan Garber and his Orchestra will headline a one night show at Moonlite Gardens Coney Island Cincinnati on Saturday July 29. Local Farmer Ends Life At Home In Newtonsville

Clermont County coroner M White reported that Shu mard a well to do Clermont County native who had suffered prolonged ill health hanged himself Sunday in an outbuilding at his home on State Route 727 three miles northwest of Newtonsville. His sister Miss Mary Allen Shumard alerted neighbors when he did not answer calls and J R Mohler found him. Dr Allan Rapp of Owensville cut the body down and a verdict of death by own action was returned. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Modest Christian Church with burial in Plain View Cemetery Newtonsville.

John Farina Post Buys Oxygen Tent For Clermont County

The American Legion John Farina Post of New Richmond has purchased Clermont County's only oxygen tent to aid patients with breathing illnesses. The post will transport the tent rent to patients upon physician recommendation, free of charge, accepting voluntary contributions from those who can pay.

Clermont County League teams played Sunday with Mt. Orab holding first after a 12-6 win over New Hope at Georgetown. Owensville beat Williamsville 3-2 on a late Rosselot homer. Goshen shut out Hamersville 4-0 as Henry Ertel allowed two hits. Batavia won 9-0 at home over Edenton with Pence pitching and Meyer hitting a four bagger. Bethel beat Amelia 10-1 at Amelia. Bethel's strong lineup includes Bergman brothers and Brofft. Newtonsville defeated Williamsburg 11-6 with Marshall winning. Next Sunday games listed and a managers meeting set for Batavia July 24 at 8 PM. League standings show Owensville and Goshen near the top with Bethel and Williamsville also strong.

Township Clerks and Trustees Meet in Courthouse on Relief Law

Clermont County township officials from thirteen townships gathered Thursday night to discuss the new relief law effective July 1. They clarified that existing contracts with township physicians stay in force and that County Commissioners must appoint township trustees to administer relief when requested, though trustees gain no extra pay or final bill authority.

County Treasurer John Friend Jr reports Real Estate tax collections for the last half of 1938 totalled 60 139.22 as of July 15. The figure is about one third of the total. The deadline is August 5 and the treasurer’s office is open daily at noon and Saturdays to 1 30 for convenience.

Parity Payments Begin For 1939 Corn Crop

Chairman Edward C. Saxton announces the 1939 corn parity payments will start this week after farm performance checks. Most farmers complied with their plans, with a 6 cent per bushel adjustment for those within allotments, plus 9 cents conservation payment due this summer. Clermont county farmers may receive about 45000 dollars in payments as the program proceeds. Farmers will sign applications soon and may contact county AAA committees for details.

Pt Isabel Church Festival Planned With Free Movie

The Pt Isabel Church youth group hosts a Festival and Moving Picture on Wednesday night July 19 on the Parsonage lawn. The free showing of Jesus of Nazareth follows the earlier postponement due to the death of youth leader Flora Day. Ice cream hot dogs fish sandwiches and drinks will be on sale.
