Six countians attending Morehead State College earned the spring term Dean's List with Norma Jean Ellis of New Richmond achieving a perfect 4.0. Free films for women sponsored by cancer society

Betts Elected DAV Commander in Clermont County

E Betts was elected commander of Clermont County Council No. 63 Disabled American Veterans for 1963-64. Other officers include Carlos Hutson senior vice commander Courtland Crawford junior vice commander Robert Branham adjutant Meader P Johnson treasurer Homer Phills service officer and Sterling Scalf chaplain. The 42nd annual DAV and Women’s Auxiliary convention will be held in Akron July 26 27 and 28. Delegates to the state meeting were named at the July 8 chapter meeting. All Clermont County members are urged to attend.

Seal Captured After Climbing Barqe At Dam 34

Clarence Petri and Frank Woods, lock and dam operators at Dam 34 Chile, captured a seal that boarded a barge. They lured it with a net wrapped it in tarpaulin and kept it in Petri’s basement until Cincinnati Zoo curators arrived for captivity. Clermont County Auditor Earl Metzger and George Snead first sighted the seal on July 4.

Grand Jury Indicts 14 Counts in Two Day Session

A Clermont County grand jury, after hearing 31 witnesses over two days, indicted 11 people on 14 counts and ignored seven counts against two. Indictments include second degree manslaughter, auto theft, and various property crimes. The panel urged continued investigation by the prosecutor and police for the next session.

County Receives Larger Share From State Local Fund

State Auditor Roger W. Tracy announced that 36 counties including Hamilton will get smaller monthly shares from the $2 million local government fund starting with July. Clermont gains $6,413.36 from $6,336.72, with 29 other counties also increasing allocations while 22 counties keep the $40,000 yearly minimum. Allocation changes reflect revisions in municipal tax duplicates and population-based shares used since last year.

County departments face 47097 dollar cutback in year

Clermont County commissioners on Monday announced a total reduction of 47097.32 for the rest of the year due to an overoptimistic year end income estimate by the former auditor and a revised outlook by the new auditor Earl. departments affected include Sheriff 5611 Welfare 4295.21 Auditor 4148.43 and others with detailed cuts listed.

Motors should be less confused when the Batavia township road marking program is completed. Robert Haas of the Greater Amelia Businessmen Association presents the first marker to Harold Bissantz, township trustees chairman. Clermont National Bank promotes two officers this week

Charles C. Harding of Clermont National Bank Milford announces promotions for Howard Wilson Batavia office to vice president and Donald L. McWhorter Milford cashier to vice president and cashier. The bank also notes it gained control of First National Bank Batavia and Farmers and Merchants Bank Williamsburg on July 1, creating assets over 19 million dollars.

Extension Of YWCA To Clermont Sought

Clermont County residents led by James Berbeau of Batavia will meet Cincinnati YWCA officials to discuss extending YWCA programs to Batavia Amelia. A noon luncheon on Wednesday July 17 will be held at YWCA headquarters in Cincinnati with attendees from Batavia Glen Este and YWCA leaders discussing plans to expand services as part of a long range growth strategy.

Liquor Commission Handles Clermont Permit Violations

The Ohio Department of Liquor Control ruled on a Clermont permit case and heard others. On July 20 the panel suspended The Hut operator William J. Spicer for 28 days July 1 to 29 for gaming on site. Also heard July 9 a case involving Murray's Loveland for Sunday sales and consumption.
