London reports five cholera cases cured by inhaling pure oxygen in Toulon with immediate warmth and normal pulse. The Times lauds potential, urging medical inquiry. Dr Trouchin in London notes multiple lives saved, triggering wide attention.
In Logan County West Virginia three men robbed an old man named Palmer in his home. Palmer died next morning as a result of torture and the assailants fled to Ohio. Tipton was mortally wounded during pursuit, died in the penitentiary years later from the wound and post mortem revealed a ball lodged in his backbone.
Dr Herbert S Baylis a known New York City dentist and Dental Society member was arrested for grand larceny. He occupied rooms in a fashionable boarding house where boarders reported robberies. Police found pawn tickets on him and in court he admitted guilt saying he would have killed himself if a weapon had been present.
R G Dun and Co reports 5510 failures in the six months ending July 1 1884, liabilities totaling 124000000 dollars. The figures, up from 4637 and 66000000 dollars, reflect panic centered in New York City. Yet the agency says business remains prepared and expects firmer demand in the second half.

Milwaukee on July 1 reports citizens intend to enforce the Sunday closing law. The plan would affect about a dozen large parks run by leading brewers and faces resistance from German communities and roughly a thousand licensed saloonkeepers.

O C Barrows a Bristol citizen and book keeper for the National Rubber Company admits a defalcation of $5,000. He has worked for the firm twenty years in Providence R I on June 29.
Kankakee Illinois July 1 Thomas Douitle a well known farmer living near Chebanse killed himself this afternoon by slitting his throat with a razor. No reason for the act is given.
New York July 2. Investigations into Mrs. Ward’s baby farming operation show seven infant deaths from January 6 to May 29 last, due to dentition and bronchitis. One baby died yesterday.
John Shirley, prosperous farmer, was killed when his mowing machine struck him as his team bolted. Six years earlier a worker on Shirley’s land died in a similar team-turned-accident on the same farm.
Williamshure Ohio July 2 Mr W R McGill president of the Cincinnati and Eastern Railway Company was killed by a fall from the baggage car door on Train No 14 as it crossed a trestle two miles east of Winchester The fall measured about seventy feet
