Steve Kemme reports on a renewed push for a large scale underground drainage project dubbed the super sewer. Proponents argue it could alleviate flooding and support future growth while opponents fear cost and environmental impact.
OKI proposes a regional sewer for Batavia Bethel and Williamsburg to be reviewed by Clermont County Sewer & Water District. The plan echoes a 1971 super sewer idea by McGill Smith Amelia, with an 84 inch tunnel 160 feet deep to feed a treatment plant.
An overhang awning collapsed in Batavia about 9 am injuring no pedestrians. Two cars were damaged a 1967 Checker Marathon owned by John S Shanly of Blan chester and a 1970 Ford Galaxie owned by Donald Conrad Apt C 226 E Main St. The street was cleared by 1 pm and traffic returned to normal.
Clermont County will host a Rox International plant to mass produce freon engines that run on solar energy. The site near Batavia is under review with production planned for next spring and employment expected to rise from 30–40 to over 100 by year end 1977.
The Ohio 648 Board upheld three contested decisions affecting the Clermont County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board. The rulings freeze Dr. Steven Katkin’s salary at 21892 dollars and cap Dr. Alan Boerger at 16000, withdraw funds for a therapeutic nursery, and cut a student position. The board plans to decide on further appeal while stressing the need for clear service priorities and broader citizen involvement.
Clermont County Disaster Services may join state surplus equipment programs to expand distribution across the county. Nine of fourteen townships have signaled intent to join, with Miami Township declining. A tornado in Goshen on June 24 caused 200000 in damage to barns power lines and trees but no homes.
