Twenty seven members met at the Courthouse for an organization meeting. Earl E. Eastwood was elected chairman, Arthur Peed treasurer and registrar, C. E. Phillips secretary, and Robert Hare parliamentarian. Regular meetings will be the first Thursday of each month with all Republicans urged to attend. A program committee was named and the next meeting set for August 3 at the Batavia Court House.

Witnesses included Mr and Mrs J C Wilson and Jackie of Herrin Illinois. Florence graduates from Cincinnati College of Music and is the sole female Armco band member. Love and Wilson play for Ace Brigade Band. The couple return from engagements in Oklahoma and Texas. the band plans three weeks at Chippewa Lake west of Akron.

Drunken Driver Arrested After Crash in County
Earl Garman 59 was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Frank Perry for DUI after colliding with a machine owned by Lawrence Faul near Rt 222 and Rt 50. He appeared before Magistrate J M Wiseman, bound over to the grand jury under $200 bond and released on bond.

Mrs Mildred Hughes of Loveland died Monday from injuries after a Thursday auto crash on Oakland road. Her husband is Bert Hughes. The car skidded and overturned, breaking both legs and injuring her chest.

Last week Director EB N Dietrich dismissed David H Sutton from the post of State Director of Public School Finance. Dietrich said Sutton circulated derogatory stories about school financing to newspaper reporters without approval. Both Dietrich and Sutton had been appointed by former governors.

Batavia Girl In Trouble With Kentucky Hold-Up Case
Eldridge, 18, of Cincinnati and bride of 12 days, Marie Murphey of Batavia, are being held by Louisville authorities in a hold-up at a fueling station. They allegedly obtained $15, stole six gallons of gas and a quart of oil after returning from a honeymoon in Atlanta. Patrolman Clarence Conklin arrested them. Mrs Eldridge reportedly said she hoped for death if sentenced to prison.

Chile Celebrates 123rd Anniversary Events Draw 3500
A two day observance in Chile attracting about 3,500 people featured vintage town celebrations for Chile’s 123rd anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the Chile Methodist Episcopal Church. A caravan from London England toured to Indianapolis with 50 members, while locals staged street dances and children’s performances. Gamess and contests produced multiple first prize winners as crowds noted loss of a flag from the post office.

Clermont County Grand Jury indictments arraigned
Seven persons indicted by the Clermont County Grand Jury on June 24 were arraigned before Judge Charles G. White and either pled guilty or had trial dates set. William Prather pleaded guilty to assault and battery and received a suspended sentence with fines and jail days. Clarence Sanders and Allen Cobb pled not guilty and set trial dates for housebreaking and larceny. John Hauck pled not guilty with trial set for July 24. Reuben Catron J D Gardner and Thornton Laudermilk pled not guilty and scheduled for trial July 28.
